Welcome to the Lovelace's Square blog
Why we are opening a blog, what you will find here (platform news, project diaries, chemometrics news and the life of the association), who writes it and how to follow along.
Hello, and welcome. This is the first post on the Lovelace's Square blog. Before anything else, we would like to explain what this space is for, what you can expect to read here, and how you can take part.
A home for our news
Until now, news about Lovelace's Square has been scattered. A new code would appear in The Square, a new lesson in The Library, a change in Ada... and unless you happened to visit at the right moment, you would never know. Announcements about the association, events or conferences reached some people and missed many others.
This blog changes that. From today, this is where we announce things. Whenever something new happens around Lovelace's Square, or something in the wider world of chemometrics is worth sharing, you will find it here, in one place, in chronological order.
We will keep updating it over time. Some posts will be short notes; others will be longer stories. All of them will be written in the same open spirit as the rest of the project.
What you will find here
We plan to write about four kinds of things.
1. Platform news
Lovelace's Square has three public parts, and all of them keep growing:
- The Square, the open repository where the community shares codes and datasets. We will announce new resources, new versions of existing ones and new features of the platform.
- The Library, our collection of free lessons on the core methods of data analysis. We will tell you when new articles are published, when existing ones are improved, and when new interactive visualisations are added.
- Ada, our AI assistant, currently in public beta. We will share what changes in each update, what we fix, and what we learn from the questions people ask.
2. Project diaries
Over the coming months we will be working on three new projects. We want to build them in the open, so this blog will act as their diary: the ideas, the decisions, the experiments that work and the ones that do not.
- Ada Desktop: an assistant that works where you work, on your own files, repositories and notes, and remembers the context of each project.
- Ada Research Commons: an open assistant that a research group runs itself, connected only to the sources the group approves, to help new members find protocols, reuse notebooks, understand datasets and even fill in paperwork, always showing where each answer comes from.
- Ada Teaching Commons: on one side, a patient Socratic tutor for students that knows the course and the lab and asks questions instead of handing over answers; on the other, tools for teachers, from anonymised patterns of where students get stuck to resources and simulations built on demand.
All three are at an early stage. We would rather show them while they take shape than present them only when they are finished, because that is when feedback is most useful.
3. Chemometrics news
Lovelace's Square is part of a larger community. We will also share things from the wider world of chemometrics and data analysis that we think are worth your attention: conferences and meetings, schools and courses, interesting papers, new open software and datasets, and opportunities in the field. If something helps people learn, share or reuse methods, it belongs here.
4. Life of the association
Since February 2026, Lovelace's Square has been a non-profit association that belongs to its members. That brings its own news: general assemblies and decisions taken together, new members, sponsorships, conferences where we have a stand, and calls for participation. We want members, and anyone curious about the project, to be able to follow how the association grows.
Who writes here
The blog is written by the Lovelace's Square team, but it is not meant to be only ours. Anyone in the community can propose a post: a new toolbox you have shared in The Square, a method you would like to explain, an event you are organising, or simply an idea you would like to discuss. Write to us at contact@lovelacesquare.org and we will help you shape it.
How often we will publish
We are not promising a fixed rhythm. We will publish when there is something worth telling, and we would rather write fewer, useful posts than many empty ones. Some weeks may bring several updates; other times there may be a quiet period while we work.
How to follow along
The easiest way to stay up to date is to come back to this page from time to time. If you prefer to be notified, you can subscribe: our subscription page explains how to receive new posts automatically in a feed reader, without creating an account or giving us your email.
And if you have questions, ideas or would like to get involved, we will be happy to hear from you at contact@lovelacesquare.org.
Thank you for reading, and see you in the next post.
